MADRID’S CYCLING PATH

The Cycling Path will constitute a big linear park which, when completed, will be 60,7 kilometers long. The idea is to mix sport and transport. This path, together with the 90 kilometers of bike paths that already exist, will surround the entire city. A circle route that will take you to the most representative sports facilities of the city, and which will finally put an end to the many barriers that make mobility in Madrid difficult.

The creation of green zones along this itinerary, with more than 5.000 trees and some 170.000 bushes, will help create a suitable environment for different sports. The materials used for construction will be recycled, such as the rubber of old tires, or residues from pruning. This has a double environmental benefit, it is a way to eliminate residue, and to avoid that the land dry, which will save water.

The first of three phases of construction is already finished, and totals 17,7 kilometers. The second phase entails another two stretches, of a length. The third phase will be the longest stretch of 26 kilometers.

Therefore, the cycling path will have a total of 62 kilometers surrounding Madrid, and in the future may run into the center of the city, and connect with the network of cycling paths of the entire Community of Madrid. Actually, Madrid has approximately 96 kilometers of cycling routes which run through both for urban centers and green spaces, and which, in the near future will be expanded. Bicycle users, whether as a means of transportation or as a hobby, will be able to move all around the city.
